About Us
My name is Bruce Afkami, the founder of Pet’s Friend Forever. PFF provides customized training, walking and behavior correction programs specific to you and your dog’s needs.
I began my career as a professional dog trainer after many years of training my family’s and friend’s dogs. I have had the unusual experience of having strangers approach me on the street and offer to buy my dog on the spot because of how well trained they were. In college I trained my German Shepard, Oliver, to wait outside my classes and stores until I came back. Later when I was married with small children, we had a male Sheltie we called Cinnamon. After family and friends watched him pick up the dirty clothes on the floor of my daughters’ room and deposit them in the laundry chute, I was asked many times if I could PLEASE train their dogs.
I retired in 2015 from a long and fulfilling career in the corporate world managing and coaching people and resources for more positive results. After a short break, I realized that I wanted to fulfill my lifelong passion of Dog Training. I also love hiking/walking and being outdoors. I felt compelled to make the human-dog relationship the focus of the next chapter of my professional life and use my skills in Canine and human relation to achieve a happy environment.I have also incorporated my photography/videography skills by recording and sharing special moments of training and development in your dog’s life.
I use Positive Reinforcement approach to motivate your dog to behave well. He/She will behave to please you and NOT because of Fear. This means family members will learn how to interact and communicate with their dog in consistent and constructive ways. I encourage the family’s participation in training and building a loving and trusting relationship with their pet.
I have also incorporated my photography/videography skills by recording and sharing special moments of training and development in your dog’s life.
I have invested in my continuing education as a trainer over the last seven years and as a Certified member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers, I attend the yearly conference and take ongoing courses to stay current in the field. Pet’s Friend Forever is bonded, insured and meets all the standards and requirements of Professional Dog Training Practices. We offer group and private lessons. I look forward to meeting you and your dog!
Our Training Approach
- At PFF, we specialize in all phases of training from puppies (crate training, housebreaking and commands) to adult dogs certified Good Cannine Socialization ( with dogs and people) and Behavior Modification.. We recommend custom programs to alleviate unwanted behavior, separation anxiety, aggression, counter surfing, over eating, etc
- We will coach you on how to communicate effectively with your dog in order to develop loving and trusting relationship so he/she will naturally want to obey and please you (rather than be fearful of you).
- We subscribe to Least Intrusive Method Approach (LIMA) and use Positive Reinforcement R+ throughout the training. Depending on what motivates your pup, we utilize toys, clicker, affection, praise, petting and tasty healthy treats for reward.
- We work with all breeds, temperaments and age groups and offer package discounts, group rates and individual sessions to fit any budget.
