San Clemente is a dog walker’s dream on paper. The beach trail runs 2.3 miles along the coast, the ridgeline routes climb above town for real views and real exercise, and the Sea Summit trails near the Outlets offer wide-open ocean scenery. But every one of those places comes with crowds, bikes, joggers, and other dogs, and that’s where a lot of local dogs struggle. A dog that pulls, barks, or lunges turns what should be a beautiful coastal walk into something you’d rather avoid.
I’m Bruce Afkami, founder of Pets Friend Forever, and helping San Clemente families raise calm, reliable dogs is what I do. Dog Training Basics is a comprehensive obedience program with an introduction to socialization, offered as a 5-session or 10-session package. This is the right starting point for most adult dogs who never had proper training or who picked up some bad habits along the way. By the end, your dog knows the core commands and responds to them consistently, even with distractions around.
Premium All-Around Training includes everything in the basics and goes further, adding deeper socialization, street safety, pool and beach safety, and some light agility. In a coastal town like San Clemente, where your dog is constantly around water, crowds, and the busy beach trail, this is an especially good fit for families who want a dog that’s genuinely dependable out in the community.
The Advanced Canine Good Citizen program takes your dog all the way to official AKC certification. It builds on every prior skill and finishes with mastery of the ten skills the American Kennel Club requires. As a certified CGC evaluator, I can both prepare your dog and conduct the evaluation, so you finish with a nationally recognized credential that proves your dog is a model canine citizen.
Every program runs on positive reinforcement. I’m experienced in the full range of training methods and respect each client’s preferences, but rewarding the behavior you want, so your dog chooses it willingly, is at the center of everything I do.
A huge share of the behavior problems I’m called about aren’t really training problems. They’re energy problems. A dog that doesn’t get enough physical exercise and mental stimulation will find its own outlet, and it’s usually one you won’t enjoy: chewing, digging, barking, or tearing around the house the moment you get home.
Few towns are better set up for dog exercise than San Clemente, and my dog walking service makes the most of it, especially for owners who are busy or away during the day. When a specific behavior is making life difficult, general obedience isn’t always enough on its own, and that’s where my behavior correction work comes in.
